Mentoring Services | Community Organizing

The G.R.O.W. Program was founded by Diwee Sewell and has had several partners, volunteers and loyalists to help it become what it is today. Diwee has volunteered and mentored young adults in the community for over fourteen years and wanted to create an organization that could structure programs that would benefit the development of the community long-term.  The I.R.S. granted a 501(c)3 Non-Profit designation to the organization, which increased the capacity to serve.

We believe in getting the men from our communities that identify with the challenges we face to take a leadership role in mentoring our young boys and reshaping the way they view the world. The organization was initially shaped by men, so naturally, they mentored from their knowledge base. With that said, the first few years the program focused solely on adult males mentoring boys. However, due to the great need for programs for young girls, the organization lovingly welcomed women and young girls too.

The G.R.O.W. Program’s mentors are referred to as “Narrative Changers” and they work to help youth with conflict resolution, emotional wellness, life skills development, workforce development, entrepreneurship and academic success and fitness. We also coordinate safety measures to prevent gun violence. The long-term goal is to decrease the cycle of intergenerational incarceration by empowering young people with the skills they need to thrive in society.
